INTRODUCTORY LITERATURE

ACADEMICS

the lecturer

MADAM 'AIN ABDULLAH

Literature is probably one of my favourite classes since I love reading and understanding stories and poems but I have to admit, it has been really difficult for me to fully grasp some of the concepts we have to learn.

Madam Ain really does make the class fun, especially when it comes to understanding the texts. She encourages us to share how we can relate the story to our own lives and to see it in the perspective of the story's or poem's own timeline. Every discussion always gives me a wider scope of knowledge from different times and history.

The Class Sessions

This course introduces the students to two genres of literature. poetry and fiction (short story and the novel). It aims to provide a sound basis for the appreciation of literature, promote close study and analysis of literary texts and enhance writing skills useful in academic settings. Students will have to identify and demonstrate their understanding by applying the literary elements to a wide array of genres orally and in written work.

Assessments and Assignments

This was during our Novel Presentation.

Literature is one of my favourite subjects but it's still really difficult for me to get a good score for my assessments. The questions really challenge our way of thinking and how we need to think out of the box.

For our assignments, we had one called 'Literary Exhibition'. It was unfortunate that we couldn't actually make a physical exhibition due to COVID-19 but all of us pulled through and did our best to make a virtual one. My team used Wix to make a website and we even made a video to elaborate on our chosen theme and its literary elements.
