FUNDAMENTALS OF ACADEMIC READING

ACADEMICS

The Lecturer

SIR NIK MOHD AFIQ NIK LUQMAN

Genuinely speaking, it took me a lot of time to actually understand this class. Fundamentals of Academic Reading or Reading, in short, teaches me so many things that we do but we tend to not notice it much. Our lecturer, Sir Afiq is someone who loves to banter around in class and helps us understand the topic as best as possible. He takes his time answering our questions and makes sure we focus on his lessons.

The Class Sessions

In this course, we are introduced to basic reading skills and strategies required as students. It helps us develop good reading techniques and strategies that are essential for success in academic reading. The course exposes us to many reading materials and helps us sharpen our reading skills to a better degree.

These are some the materials we use for our classes but since we're using Open and Distance Learning (ODL), all our notes are mostly through slides and videos but I do write some points down in a small notebook if possible. It helps me remember better.

Sir Afiq likes bantering with the class and we're always up for some laughs.

ASSESSMENTS AND ASSIGNMENTS

Journal 2

Journal 1

Assessment and assignments were a bit difficult for me but I'm slowly getting the hang of it, with the help of my classmates and lecturer who always makes time for us to consult and ask him queries. The first journal I had to make took me a really long time because it felt like I didn't know what I was doing at first. The second one went a bit more smoothly but still took me hours of hard work because I wanted to show the best of my abilities here. It was difficult in a way that got me thinking of main ideas, the relevancy, the importance, the downsides of my idea and so much more.
